The 2008 Arizona State Sprint Kart Championship is comprised of 6 rounds of competition split between PKRA and the Tucson P1 Kart circuit.

The championship classes (alphabetic) are:

  • HPV-1
  • HPV-2
  • HPV-4
  • Rookie Sportsman
  • Shifter
  • Shifter heavy  Update 2008-07-16: this class was listed in error. All shifters race in one class.
  • TaG Junior
  • TaG Masters
  • TaG Senior

The first two rounds will piggyback with other club and regional series and not all classes will race the same weekend.

The final 4 rounds will include all classes on the same race day.

The schedule and location for the rounds are:

  1. Jan 19 and Feb 10 at PKRA
  2. May 3rd and May 10 at PKRA
  3. Jul 12 at P1
  4. Aug 9 at PKRA
  5. Oct 18 at P1
  6. Dec 13 at PKRA

Points structure for the State Championship:

30 points for a win in the main
20 points for a 2nd in the main
15 points for a 3rd in the main
10 points for a 4th in the main
5 points for a 5th in the main
0 points for 6th or below in the main.

In addition, one point is awarded for each lap completed in a heat or main. Note: This means that some races are worth more points than others because not all events have the same number of heats or laps.

Update 2008-06-23:  In April, the PKRA board clarified that there is one dropped race in the 2008 State Championship. The Points chart will be updated to include a column for "Points w/drop".

Update 2008-10-14:  It was announced that SKUSA S5 legal shifters are legal for the State Championship combined shifter class.

Prizes:

BlueBayou Motorsports is awarding a half day kart racing class to a State Championship racer based on a drawing. Racers MUST register for the prize to be eligible. Click here for official details.

Final list of registered racers as of the December 10th, 2008 deadline:

  1. Jacob Boyle
  2. Makayla Bullock
  3. Erin Cary
  4. Sean Conyers
  5. Michael England
  6. Ryne Hedlund
  7. Micah Hendricks
  8. Jim McKinney
  9. Mike McKinney
  10. Billy Meginnis
  11. Bailey Murphy
Update 2008-12-13: Makayla Bullock won the drawing for a BlueBayou training session.

Points for the Round 2 classes that ran on May 3rd have been posted.

The points are based on paper scoring I received today and will be validated against MyLaps results when they are available.

Note that Rounds 1 and 2 are both split over two race weekends. Only Shifter, Shifter heavy, TaG Master and TaG Senior have raced in round 2 at this point. The remaining classes will race on May 10th.

As always, points for series that race at PKRA can be viewed via the PKRA Points page (click here).

Update May 28: We are still waiting to recover data for the May 10th State Championship race.

Preliminary points for the Round 2 classes that ran on May 10th have been posted. These have been held up due to the apparent loss of the sign-in sheets. Basically, I did not know which racers were contesting the State Championship and which were just entered in the club race for May 10th. To resolve the entry list, Bill Wuestenhoefer identified State Championship entrants based on the entry fees paid. Thanks Bill!

The bad news is the paper scoring is still missing after weeks of efforts to track them down. So, as with the club race on May 10th, we may never have confirmed final points for the event. I have heard that someone had a transponder problem that affected their results in MyLaps but I don't know if it was for a State Championship racer or what their correct finishing position is. Likewise regarding a post race DQ on May 10th.

So, as requested in the May 10th club race, if anyone knows of any errors or omissions in the MyLaps for May 10th, they need to PM me. Even if flawed, the May 10th results will have to be declared final very soon because they are also holding up the final club championship results.

The MyLaps for the May 10th race have been up for 11 days and we need to finalize the club championship which means we need to finalize the May 10th State Championship results because it ran together with the May 10th club race.

So Monday (June 2) midnight is the deadline for notifying me of any errors or omissions in the MyLaps for May 10th.

The Points have been updated to reflect the mandatory dropped race. A column showing points with the drop has been added and determines the order of the standings.

P1 Kart Circuit reports a delay in uploading the MyLaps for the July 12 race. They estimate the MyLaps will be uploaded by or on July 16th. Points will be posted as soon as the MyLaps are available.

Subject: Changes to Points

Two changes have been made to the championship points:

1. An additional TaG Jr. driver was added to the points for May 10th. If you recall, May 10th was a combined Club and State Championship race. For reasons unknown, this driver was not entered on the State Championship entry list for that event and the driver did not report it until last week.

2. The points chart previously split shifters into two classes (Heavy and Light). That was in error. There is just one Shifter class in the State Championship. The two classes have been combined in the current points chart.

The State Championship results and points are now final.

The only change from the provisional points for the final race involve HPV2. Electronic scoring had no results for heat two in HPV2. Rather than delay provisional points, racers were tentatively given 8 points for that heat which would be adjusted if needed when I received the paper scoring. There was no paper scoring for a second heat either, so 8 points were subtracted from the race 6 HPV2 driver points. While season points for race 6 HPV2 drivers were reduced, that had no effect on any championship positions.
