PKRA Member Posts: 192 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | No, Jorge will be racing both Yamaha and KPV as an experiment to collect additional data about this combined class. I would suggest that others which could do the same try it also so we can learn as much as possible. Thanks for asking though Steve. Edited by Ted Tucholski 2010-07-21 6:35 PM

Score them seperately. Yamaha is the fastest growing class and we should not ruin a good thing. Ask any of the Yamaha drivers and they will tell you that they want to be scored seperately. The KPV is a faster package and is not the same as a Yamaha. The lone KPV in the class ran .6 faster than any Yamaha. Edited by Larry LaVeque 2010-08-08 5:07 PM

PKRA Champion Posts: 721 ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Glendale,AZ | The region 7 rules for the class have it running KPV 4 (not KPV 3) @ 360 and Yamaha 340. I am not sure what the penalty would be for the 3 pipe on the KPV. Where did the combination come from anyway? It should probably be looked at. If anyone is interested, I got a good KAOS KPV for $1000 complete. Edited by Curtis Ruth 2010-08-08 9:05 PM

PKRA Member Posts: 192 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The KPV ran the same lap times within one tenth of their Yamaha according to Jay. I'm not defending the KPV, but I think we need more data and more KPV's running in this class before we shoot first and ask questions later. Gus will be running the Yamaha in the next race (State Series), so we can get a better guage of the situation. Also the KPV was only 3 or 4 tenths quicker all night. The last time the Yamahas ran the full track CCW both Gus and Chad Brassfield had quicker times than Gus's KPV on a full track CW the other night. I plan on putting a KPV on Jorges kart for race #3 so we can collect more data. I am really disappointed that more KPV's didn't show, this whole idea was for their benefit. If we can't get more than 3 KPV karts to show on a regular basis then I will agree with Larry to separate them and run them in separate classes. My guess is the KPV will die then. PKRA Member Posts: 192 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I did check Mylaps and we all could claim to be correct. Gus was .331 quick in qualifying, .219 quick in the heat and .606 quick in the main. Those were averages per lap. As I said before everyone has to run a Yamaha next race because of the State series. It would really be nice to see the same full course CW to race on so we can collect more data about comparing the KPV and Yamaha. Lets see how fast Gus is on the same course running a Yamaha. Hopefully 2 or 3 more KPV's will show up also. Edited by Ted Tucholski 2010-08-09 2:17 PM

PKRA Member Posts: 26 ![]() | Well I raced last Sat. night & seeing that I'm over 50yrs old, guys like Gus, Chad, Jason, Jorge, are going to beat me no matter what motor they run. But would be nice to know that its because of my driving not the fact that they have a better motor package + can drive better. Why should the Yamaha class have to allow KPV motors in our class just because there class died? We have been getting 6 or more yamaha's every race. The Yamaha motor is half or less the cost of a KPV plus compare the parts prices and you will see a huge difference. Ya I know you will have to do more rebuilds ect ect on the Yamaha but bottom line Yamaha is less expensive to run. I know its not a perfect world we race in but it seems that if we're getting good number of yamaha racers that are having a good time why do we want to cause more problems by allowing KVP motors in. All this is doing is making karting less fun and maybe not fair. Lets all just run Yamaha's and let the best driver win. Well thats my 2 cents for what its worth.

PKRA Member Posts: 99 ![]() ![]() ![]() | When I ran against Gus in KPV4 he was about 0.6 to 0.9 secs faster than me on qualifying and best lap times. When I ran a KPV4 against Gus runing a Yamaha last season this dropped to about 0.1 sec. I will be running the KPV3 at the next race so it will be interesting to see where our times are. The problem with Gus is that he's not only fast but he's consistently fast and as a result pulls out big gaps in the race. Very annoying! I think we need more data before we jump to conclusions. If the weight/engine combination is right it sounds like an old guy with a KPV3 (like me) could be right in the mix with the old guys with Yamahas. I hope so. It would be great to have a bigger, competitive class with engine options.

PKRA Member Posts: 33 ![]() Location: 250 S. Mulberry, Ste. 105, Mesa, AZ 85202 | Again, while all of this experimentation goes on the Yamaha owners will lose interest and not show up on race day. Our largest classes before were Yamaha...best value for the money. Same thing happen in TaG with all of the motor stuff...Leopard vs. ROK vs. Rotax. The motors are different. Simple solution...run together....but score seperately until kart counts come up to support seperate classes.
