I'm confused with the age rules I'm only 14 and I hope to race in the Gatorz Challenge during the 2011 series but to race in Sr. class do I have to be 15 before it begins or my birthday can be during the series. My birthday is on June.

I have another question, how much does a 2007 Tony Kart Evx chassis weight with a 2009 Rotax Max Junior engine? I am 14 years old and I weight 120 pounds and I would like to know would I be 320 pounds race ready?

You will need to weigh the kart and yourself, both race ready. There are too many variables. You could probably look up the rotax motor weight and be close but components on the kart could have been changed to something heavier or lighter than when new. If you are worried about being overweight, you SHOULD be safe by a good margin. I say should because we raced a borrowed Biesse in 2008 and also should have been under weight but we were around 15 lbs overweight! Maybe a previous owner put lead inside the frame.

If the kart and you are too light, you just add lead weights. But you have to weight the kart, not guess. PKRA has scales at the track you can use to weigh the kart.

Ernest,

Per our earlier PMs, your kart will weigh somewhere around 170-180 pounds based on the OTK 2007 chasssis, with junior max motor attached. So, expect to bolt on ~25 pounds which is pretty typical for most karters.

As for adding lead weights. Perfectly acceptable. Just make sure they are painted white, and bolted to the chassis, seat, etc with safety wire to ensure the are secured for safety reasons. Both PKRA, SDKA (Sonoran Desert Kart Assocation), Gatorz, etc find this the standard for upping weight.

Yes, you'll need to add weight to race TaG Sr. once you are old enough -- no problem with that though....

Good luck!

Ernest if your serious about running Gatorz next year your dad and I should talk. We are thinking about doing the same. We can cut travel expenses by traveling/ transporting to the races together.

Ernest, unless your pretty experienced in karting I'd stick with Junior Max that has an age range of 13-16 for Gatorz.

Ernest,

The way the current rules read, you simply have to turn 15 by October 31st of the year you are racing to be eligible to race Sr. So, if you turn 15 in June of 2011, you can race in Sr. Max. However, you can also race Jr. next year and the year after. As long as you don't turn 17 during the race year, you can race in Jr. Max.

Let your experience level and weight determine your class choice.
